Balancing our lives is not always easy, and it can be downright challenging with life’s competing demands. My life is a juggling act of work, Huskies, teaching yoga, and building a yoga & wellness business, not to mention the daily tasks of owning a house, enjoying the perks of being a new Nana, and taking care of myself. Yikes! I'm sure some of you can relate to similar demands on your time & energy. No wonder so many people experience burnout. Our active to rest ratio is a bit unbalanced, thanks to society applauding constant busyness, while moments to recharge are brushed aside as unproductive. If you can relate you are not alone.
Yoga has been a great teacher, offering a treasure trove of wisdom that extends far beyond the mat. Through yoga, I've learned to be present in my body, surrender, become one with my breath, self-acceptance, embrace change, find solace in rest, and perhaps most importantly, strive for balance. On the mat, these lessons come alive, culminating in that serene post-Savasana bliss. But once I step away from this haven and plunge back into the hustle of daily life, that tranquility tends to slip away.
It's fascinating how yoga poses, especially those requiring balance, highlight the asymmetry of our bodies. The flexibility and challenges in postures like Janu Sirsasana, Trikonasana, lunges, and warriors varies from side to side, mirroring the asymmetry in life itself. And that's alright; imperfection is part of the journey.
I've discovered that curiosity and observation serve as steadfast companions in navigating life's ebbs and flows. When I feel adrift—imbalance, stress, frustration, or sheer exhaustion—I've learned to turn inward. Asking probing questions, exploring the roots of my discord, and honestly assessing my emotions have been invaluable. Sometimes, seeking guidance from a trusted friend or confidant offers fresh perspectives. Am I stretching myself thin due to a fear of missing out, or struggling to set boundaries and say no? It's in these reflections that I uncover what truly resonates within me.
Perfection in attaining balance remains elusive, both on the yoga mat and in life. However, the tools and insights gleaned from yoga philosophy serve as a compass, guiding me back to center when life's chaos threatens to throw me off course.
